California regulators granted Waymo its largest expansion to date, authorizing paid driverless rides across 18 counties stretching from Sonoma to San Diego and opening new markets in Sacramento and San Diego. The approval covers all road types, day and night, roughly a tenfold increase in permitted operating area.

Waymo removed the waitlist for its Dallas robotaxi service, letting any resident or visitor hail a driverless ride through its app immediately. Service to Dallas Love Field airport is still in testing, and the launch follows the phased rollout playbook Waymo used in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

Waymo began restoring freeway routes to its robotaxi service, starting in Phoenix with Los Angeles and the Bay Area to follow, after a roughly two-month pause. The resumption came after software updates addressing problems around freeway construction zones that had prompted a recall of nearly 4,000 vehicles.
