The US will apply Section 232 tariffs and minimum import prices to polysilicon and its downstream products in a bid to shore up domestic solar and semiconductor supply chains. Experts quoted in the piece caution the measures alone may not be enough to revive US polysilicon production.

China's eight biggest polysilicon producers, which together control more than 90% of the country's effective capacity, have signed an industry self-discipline initiative on pricing and capacity aimed at ending sales below cost after a prolonged price slump.

Following a Section 232 national security investigation, the Trump administration ordered a 15% tariff plus minimum import prices on polysilicon and its derivatives entering the US, a move that will ripple through solar module and chip supply chains.
