Trump Is Spending Billions On The Minerals That Power EVs
The US administration is directing roughly $3 billion into critical-mineral projects, including support for domestic graphite production, in a push to loosen China's grip on battery supply chains. The spending may inadvertently benefit EVs, which drive much of the demand for graphite, lithium and other battery minerals.

Global EV Battery Anode Material Volume Up 21%... Chinese Supply Chain Dominance Grows Further
SNE Research data show global EV battery anode material deployment reached 732,000 tons in the first half of 2026, up 21.1% year on year. Even though the ex-China market grew faster at nearly 30%, Chinese producers tightened their hold on supply, keeping about 95% of the anode market.

U.S. to back three mineral projects with $58 million in financing
The Export-Import Bank approved $58 million in loans for three critical-mineral ventures, including $25 million for Westwater Resources' Alabama graphite mine and processing facility. The project is positioned to become the first US source of natural graphite, the largest material by volume in lithium-ion batteries.
